The Queries & Theories inclusive design series continued this fall with the Sensory Design & Inclusive Experiences webcast which aired live on October 20 @ 12:30 pm ET. Moderator Alyson Steele, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal and Director of Design at Quinn Evans was joined by featured guests Jane Stoneham, Director of the Sensory Trust, and Carolina Uechi, RA, Associate at Quinn Evans. The panel engaged in an exciting dialogue focusing on sensory mapping and how it can shape a better inclusive patron experience.

Jane Stoneham is the Director of the Sensory Trust and leads its strategic direction. She is a member of the senior leadership team and an executive director of Orange Spiral Limited, the Sensory Trust trading subsidiary. With a background in horticulture and social landscape, Jane’s passion for connecting all people with place has grown the impact of the organization over the last 20 years. Jane’s publications and guidance are used across the world. Jane consults on accessibility and sensory design across the globe.

Carolina Uechi, RA, and Associate at Quinn Evans has an inquisitive and collaborative nature that enriches the design process, heightening creativity and resolving diverse requirements with integrated, responsive solutions. Having lived in Argentina, Japan, and the United States, Carolina appreciates the role of architects as allies of their clients’ cultural aspirations and the value of the user experience. Carolina's skills in 3D visualization and modeling technology enable design teams and clients to explore ideas and assess designs from multiple perspectives.

Alyson Steele, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal and Director of Design at Quinn Evans has an approach to design that enables cultural institutions to address new audiences while enhancing their buildings’ and sites’ essential character. She utilizes facilitation, graphic representation, and digital technology to develop solutions that make history and meaning tangible. Alyson enjoys engaging and empowering diverse stakeholder groups to create authentic and inclusive experiences of shared cultural places—making these places stronger, more dynamic, and better connected to their communities.
