Quinn Evans’ Julia Siple, AIA, LEED AP BD+C; Nakita Reed, AIA, CPHC, LEED AP BD+C, NOMA; and Charles Sparkman, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, were recently interviewed on the podcast Practice Disrupted. Created and hosted by architect and futurist Evelyn Lee, FAIA, NOMA, president-elect of the American Institute of Architects, the podcast explores current trends and developments in the architecture industry.
As she has for past AIA Architecture Firm Award winners, Evelyn spoke with some of Quinn Evans’ up-and-coming leaders about what the Firm Award means to them and for our firm moving forward.
We’re a firm that’s deeply invested in existing places and communities, in stewarding those assets into the future in a way that’s sustainable, equitable, and responsible. … The award not only acknowledges Quinn Evans, but all firms that are pursuing this type of work. It demonstrates that engaging with existing spaces is critical work for the future.
CHARLES SPARKMAN
The wide-ranging conversation touched on topics both personal—such as Julia, Nakita, and Charles’ career paths—and industry-wide, including the shift toward remote work during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to Quinn Evans’ process for engaging with communities to develop holistic, people-centered design solutions in our project work, the team discussed our approach to professional development and fostering leadership at every level of the firm.
There are so many different engagement groups. … There are a number of ways people can create their own path within the firm, to learn and explore more of what they want to do.
