Putting the “Green” in Greenfield Village
Stand 44
Stand 44
Inspired by Detroit’s industrial heritage, this new dining pavilion at Greenfield Village blends historic detailing with sustainable design.
Stand 44 creates a suite of visitor amenities in the living history museum’s growing “Main Street” neighborhood, including a sit-down restaurant seating 250 guests, an event space, and restrooms. The building is LEED certified; sustainable features include repurposed building materials, daylighting through large windows, and on-site composting facilities for the restaurant’s waste.
Adjacent to the reconstructed Detroit Central Market, the restaurant is named for the stall where the colorful entrepreneur Mary Judge sold vegetables in the late 19th century. Our design is inspired by the factory buildings of architect Albert Kahn and incorporates ceramic tiles fabricated at Greenfield Village.
Stand 44 is designed to showcase sustainable food practices at every level, from the dishes and the dining experience to behind-the-scenes practices and the materials and systems that are a part of the LEED-certified building itself.
