A Cultural Hub for History, Culture, and Ecology

Following an inclusive master planning engagement process, Quinn Evans created a comprehensive vision to unify this living history museum. The visitor experience was enhanced with a new permanent exhibit and education space. A former brownfield site was transformed into a resilient landscape and the site of lively cultural hub, welcoming visitors to engage with history, culture, and the coastal ecology.
The North Carolina History Center addresses the museum’s need for visitor amenities and orientation spaces. The center’s contemporary design pays homage to the local architectural heritage and features dynamic and engaging exhibits, a 200-seat auditorium, offices, a café, and retail and instructional spaces. Reconstructed wetlands connect the interpretive experience to the surrounding landscape.
