Engaging With the Arts

Hylton Performing Arts Center Education and Rehearsal Wing

Hylton Performing Arts Center Education and Rehearsal Wing

George Mason University
Manassas,Virginia

This addition to the Hylton Performing Arts Center expands options for arts education and community programming on George Mason University’s Science and Technology Campus. The Center has been a cultural hub for Prince William County since it opened in 2010 with an 1,100-seat theater and black box space. The expansion provides two new multipurpose performance spaces, creating new opportunities for students and neighbors to engage with the arts.

The contextual addition unifies the existing building and provides two flexible spaces—the Jacquemin Family Foundation Hall and the Ballard Postma Studio—that can accommodate musical, theatrical, and dance performances; academic instruction; rehearsals; and revenue-generating events. Classrooms and practice rooms further support the performing arts curriculum as well the local partner and affiliate organizations who use the spaces.

The opening of this new wing not only means an expansion of educational offerings at the Hylton Center, but also the opportunity for this community to fully enter into the entire lifecycle of artistic creation.
