A Flagship for the Arts
Creative Alliance
Creative Alliance
Two decades ago, we transformed the historic Patterson Theater into a performance and gallery space for the Creative Alliance, a community arts organization. We recently helped the Creative Alliance expand its educational programs with the Creativity Center, a new hub for hands-on art and culture experiences across the street from the Patterson.
The arts have been an important part of the redevelopment of Southeast Baltimore in terms of evolving as a really multicultural and diverse neighborhood.
The Patterson Theater
The Patterson Theater, affectionately known as “the Patterson,” began life as a cinema in the 1930s. In 2003, it reopened as the Creative Alliance’s home base, offering a 200-seat theater, café, exhibition space, and live-work artist studios.
The Creativity Center
The new Creativity Center provides art classrooms, a spring-floor dance studio, and a teaching kitchen. The new spaces have allowed the Creative Alliance to greatly expand the programs they offer and audiences they serve.
Highlighting the Arts
Putting the arts on display, the Patterson and Creativity Center create a vibrant gateway into the Baltimore’s Arts and Entertainment District. Our contextual design visually connects the buildings to each other and their urban setting.
